Denver’s Southwest Area Plan describes two distinct parts of Mar Lee. In the northwest, streets mostly follow a north-south grid with alleys and well-connected blocks. On the south side, streets get longer and curve as they approach Sanderson Gulch. East of Garfield Lake, blocks get bigger and more built-up as they transition toward the Federal Boulevard commercial strip. Three schools sit on large blocks within the neighborhood.

In the south, the Sanderson Gulch trail follows the creek through Mar Lee and on toward Ruby Hill, passing Irving and Java Park along the way.

Federal and Sheridan both have long stretches of restaurants and shops, and Mexican and Latin American food has a strong presence thanks in part to the Westwood cultural district just north. Both boulevards carry RTD bus routes and connect north to US-6 for commutes downtown or west to Lakewood.
