Kendrick Lake is one of Lakewood’s designated neighborhoods, in the south part of the city between Sheridan Boulevard and Kipling Parkway. It takes its name from Kendrick Lake, a 31-acre reservoir, and from the park around it at 9351 W. Jewell Avenue. Irrigation reservoirs and a park

Before the houses, this land was farm country served by irrigation reservoirs. The Kendrick name traces to Frank C. Kendrick, a surveyor and engineer who built reservoirs in the area. Some of those old reservoirs survive today as neighborhood lakes. According to Lakewood’s comprehensive plan, the neighborhood was built out mainly in the 1960s and 1970s with single-family homes on smaller lots, and the plan notes pockets of higher-density housing along corridors such as Jewell Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.

• Kendrick Lake Park has a paved loop trail of about a mile around the water, plus fishing, a playground, restrooms and a rentable picnic shelter.
• The Gardens at Kendrick Lake are water-wise demonstration beds that show which plants do well in Colorado’s dry climate. The city acquired the site in 2001, planted the first beds in 2002 and expanded them in later years.

A lake-loop household

If you walk the lake loop, run with a dog or push a stroller around the water, some of that comes home with you. Here’s what we pay attention to:

1. Paws and shoes. Wet grass and trail grit from lake walks come inside. We clean entry mats, hard floors and the lower few inches of walls and doors.
2. Ranch and bi-level layouts. If your home has short flights of stairs between levels, each half-level gets vacuumed and dusted, and we finish the stairs as a separate task.
3. Kitchens that have been updated in stages. A 1970s floor plan with a new countertop needs products that are right for each surface. We check before we spray.
4. Garden season. Pollen and potting soil come in through patio doors in spring and summer, so we clean door tracks and sills.

Water-wise yards, cleaner floors

If your yard uses water-wise landscaping like the demonstration gardens at the lake, with gravel, mulch and native plants, you save water, but decomposed granite and wood chips stick to shoes and end up on floors. If your yard is low-water, mention it when you request a quote. We’ll bring an extra entry mat for the crew and spend more time on the floor inside your back door.
