Northfield is the part of Denver’s Central Park neighborhood that lies north of I-70, on land that was once the Stapleton airport. It’s named for The Shops at Northfield, an open-air retail and entertainment center that opened in 2006. Denver doesn’t map Northfield as its own statistical neighborhood; officially it’s part of Central Park. Home building here kept going long after the areas south of the interstate filled in. North of the interstate

The Northfield area includes several of Central Park’s named sub-neighborhoods:

• Conservatory Green, just north of the Northfield shopping area. Its streets follow the natural prairie topography, and its house colors take cues from the landscape. Real-estate descriptions put its edges roughly at Trenton Street, 51st Avenue, Willow Street and Northfield Boulevard.
• Beeler Park, the first neighborhood built on “Section 10,” the last large piece of the old airport, north of 56th Avenue. It borders the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, and Commerce City lies to the west.
• North End, surrounded on its outer edges by the refuge’s open prairie.

Just north of the main shopping plaza are newer blocks with single-family homes, townhomes, duplexes and apartment buildings. The Shops at Northfield has big-name stores, restaurants, a movie theater and several chain hotels.

New-construction homes

Much of the housing north of I-70 is recent, since this was the last part of the neighborhood to build out. Newer homes bring their own cleaning needs:

1. Leftover construction dust. When blocks around you are still being built, fine dust settles on window sills, blinds and HVAC returns for months. Starting with a deep clean, then biweekly visits, keeps it under control.
2. Large windows and sliders. Prairie wind pushes grit into door tracks. We vacuum and wipe the tracks and thresholds every visit.
3. Modern finishes. Finishes such as matte fixtures, quartz or vinyl plank each need the right product. We skip anything abrasive.
4. Open kitchens and great rooms. When the whole main floor is visible, we give the kitchen, island and living-room floors the most time.

Wind and open space

Living next to thousands of acres of refuge prairie means wide skies and wind. On breezy days, dust comes in quickly around doors and garages. If you’d like the garage entry or a mudroom bench on every checklist, note it on your quote.
