It incorporated as a town on July 19, 1945, and takes its name from a grove of cherry trees near the original town site. Cherry Hills Country Club has hosted three U.S. Opens (1938, 1960 and 1978), two PGA Championships (1941 and 1985), the 2005 U.S. Women’s Open and three U.S. Amateurs, most recently in 2023. Most of Cherry Hills Village is in the Cherry Creek School District, including Cherry Hills Village Elementary, while some areas are served by Englewood Schools. Two well-known private schools are also here: St. Mary’s Academy and Kent Denver School. The High Line Canal Trail winds through the city, a favorite for walkers, runners and riders.
